MONTE VISTA — Dorothy Nuzom Hey 87, passed away April 7, 2019 at the Monte Vista Estates. She was born in Stonington, Colo. on Nov. 2, 1931 to Anthony and Emma Hey, who have preceded her in death along with her sister, Helen Hey. The family moved to Monte Vista when Dorothy was a young child.
Dorothy started working when she was 14 years old and only held three different jobs: working at Bechtel Drug Store on Adams Street and for the Kelloff’s at the Movie Manor for a couple of years. Dorothy began working as a waitress in 1944 at the El Monte Hotel and then the Monte Villa Inn. Doris Hunt, the owner, said Dorothy was a fantastic waitress. Dorothy always remembered what her regular customers ordered. Her greatest joy was being able to wait on customers and visit with them. After working for 50 years, she decided to retire so she could enjoy her hobbies, which included reading, embroidery and crocheting.
Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and always said that her faith in God gave her the strength to help others and to care for her mother and her sister. Dorothy is survived by several cousins; her beloved cat, Precious; her guardian angel and best friend who cared for her, Tina Martinez; and many other close friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in her memory. Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 425 Batterson St., Monte Vista, Colo., 81144, beginning with the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m.
