ALAMOSA — A call reporting a violent assault led to a suspect being arrested by the Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team on Sunday evening. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Alamosa County Detention Center where he was booked on numerous charges.

According to a press release circulated on Monday, the Alamosa Police Department (APD), received a report of a violent assault in the 1400 block of West 11th Street on Sunday evening, May 25.

Following an investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant for Angelo Lucero, 19, of Alamosa. Lucero was believed to be armed. Due to the violent nature of the assault and the belief that Lucero was armed, the San Luis Valley Regional SWAT Team was activated.

Around 11 p.m., the SWAT Team located Lucero in an apartment building in the 1400 block of West 11th Street. After several minutes of negotiating, Lucero was taken into custody and transported to the Alamosa County Jail where he was booked on the charges of 1st Degree Assault, Kidnapping, Domestic Violence and Violation of a Restraining Order.

Lucero also had two active warrants for Failure to Comply, related to previous Domestic Violence incidents.

The San Luis Valley Regional SWAT team consists of officers and deputies from the Alamosa Police Department, Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, Center Police Department, Monte Vista Police Department and Saguache County Sheriff’s Office. The team was created precisely for situations like this where law enforcement officers with additional training intervene in potentially volatile situations across the Valley.
