Crown announces candidacy for RG sheriff

Christopher Crown, current undersheriff for Conejos County, is announcing his candidacy for Rio Grande County Sheriff in the upcoming election.
A lifetime resident of Rio Grande County, Undersheriff Crown and his wife Amber, married for 14 years, have raised three sons, with the youngest graduating this spring from Sargent High School.  Crown is ready to bring his experience home to serve the community he has lived in his whole life.
Crown said “running for sheriff was an easy decision for me. I am dedicated to my local community and I am fully committed to the core values of the office of sheriff. I am confident in my leadership abilities, the law enforcement training I have received, and my continuing commitment to serve, will benefit the citizens of Rio Grande County for many years to come.”

Undersheriff Crown has served the San Luis Valley as a law enforcement officer for 17 years, specializing in major crime investigations, evidence management, administration, and supervision of patrol and jail staff. He has been employed with Conejos County since 2005, and has served as undersheriff for the last five years.
Crown also has created a good working relationship with the Conejos County Commissioners, presenting the sheriff’s office needs, and assisting in overseeing the sheriff’s annual budget. Crown, having worked with a limited budget, has also been successful at finding grants and training opportunities for the sheriff’s office that do not affect the annual budget. He looks forward to doing the same for Rio Grande County.
Crown believes that being sheriff is about providing residents with a law enforcement agency they can trust and be proud of. Crown also will work toward better communication with local citizens using social and local media to deliver information about current issues in the county.
If elected, Crown will focus on recruiting and retaining staff, work with all Valley law enforcement agencies to solve crimes that cross county lines, work hand in hand with the district attorney’s office to make sure people are held accountable for their actions, and to diligently serve the citizens of Rio Grande County.
