Cordy Garcia

Posted

Longtime San Luis Valley resident Cordy Garcia, 92, was called home on Feb. 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Jose and Crescencia Manzanares on Jan. 3, 1933, in Bayfield, Colo.

Cordy was married to the love of her life, Albert Garcia, for 69 years. Her home was always filled with love and the aromas of her delicious, homemade food, no one left her house hungry.

Being surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren, watching them grow, play and thrive gave her such joy.

An exceptional homemaker, Cordy cultivated an environment that was nurturing and big on respect, accountability, responsibility, love and a strong dedication to her Catholic faith.

This was reflected in the beautiful gardens she lovingly tended to. Many family pilgrimages were made to El Santuario de Chimayo where her large family shared faith, food, laughter and love.

Her laugh and smile were infectious, and she loved connecting with her comadres in notoriously joyful exchanges!

It was not uncommon for Albert to spontaneously take Cordy in his arms and dance to the Spanish music that often filled their home. They are dancing together again.

She is survived by her daughters Rose Sanchez of Leadville, Colo., Sylvia Russell, Linda Garcia, Sharon Bustos and Anna (John Andrews) Garcia all of Alamosa; brother-in-law Pete (Monica) Garcia of Colorado Springs, 20 grandchildren and many great-, great-great-, and great-great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all love her dearly.

Cordy was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Garcia, parents Jose Demetrio and Crescencia Manzanares, daughters; Alberta Quintana, Frances Riker and Gloria Garcia, her son Albert Garcia Jr., son-in-law Ken Riker, brothers; Richard, Joe and Pete, sisters; Mary, Irene Trini, Josephine and Carmen, granddaughter Rosalie Gallegos, great-grandson Jeremy Gallegos and great-grandson Aidyn Grandell and several cherished nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen and the Recitation of the Rosary will be prayed Saturday, March 22, at 9:30 a.m., immediately followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at St. Francis Jerome Catholic Church in Center, Colo., and interment following at the Alamosa Cemetery.

Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
