EAST ALAMOSA WATER & SANITATION DISTRICT. Job Description Position: WATER/WASTEWATER TECHNICIAN/ORC Reports to: District Manager. Pay Range: Varies depending on Experience. Full Time 40hrs per week. General Statement of Duties: Perform a variety of preventative maintenance and repair on the districts infrastructure and property related to water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Work varying shifts and schedules, including on-call, as needed and required by district manager. Some overtime will be occasionally required and assigned as necessary. This position must work well independently and with teams, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations. Position will serve as Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for the district to CDPHE. Examples of Essential Functions: Excavates, inspects, flushes, cleans and repairs water/sanitary sewer mains, lines and laterals; cut and remove roots from sanitary sewer mains. Repairs and/or replaces fire hydrants, meter vaults, water pumps, water distribution lines and water valves; valve exercising program; painting of fire hydrants. Installation of new water and sewer mains; installs new utility services by making taps for new water/sewer utility services. Locates mains and installations for crews and contractors; prepare sketches of utility locations; perform a variety of maintenance and repair duties. Installs, repairs and replaces curb stops, manholes, fire hydrants, valves, meters and meter vaults and boxes; exercises, opens and closes valves according to prescribed schedules. Cleans and maintains well houses and lift station equipment and grounds. Operates construction equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, front loaders, trenchers, and other tools such as pipe locators, meter test units, rodding equipment, compressors, jack hammers and concrete saws. Installs street barricades and cones prior to the performance of construction and repair activities; directs and controls traffic around worksites. Reads water meters on assigned routes recording readings; making necessary calculations. Ensures that meters are registering properly and reports to supervisors on meter conditions, defects or suspicious conditions. Responds to requests and inquiries from customers of water utilities and from public. Collect water samples for laboratory testing and perform routine testing as required within monitoring schedule. Maintain all required paperwork for the tank inspection, backflow prevention and lead and copper program. Utilize proper safety precautions for all work performed. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, supervisor(s) and the public. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Ability to: Maintain records and follow laws. Perform safe and lawful operations of a motor vehicle. Perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance activities. Perform semi-skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in the area of work assigned. Operates a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner in routine situations. Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and effective manner. Perform heavy manual labor. Perform on-call duty as required by the district. Walk or remain standing for long periods of time. Read and interpret basic maps and blueprints if required. Work independently in the absence of supervision when necessary. Required Education and Training: Possession of a valid Colorado Class 1 Water Distribution license.
