A local man is still alive due to the swift action of La Jara Police Chief Jerry Lujan, who was honored during the La Jara Town Board meeting last Thursday. Pictured from left are La Jara Mayor Larry Zaragoza, who presented a special plaque to Lujan, center, while Town Manager Dennis Koenig pins a special medal on the chief’s uniform. Lujan said he got a call that an individual was down and unresponsive and, when he arrived, the fellow wasn’t breathing. He administered Naloxone, a medication used to block the effects of opioids, especially if an individual has overdosed. Restoring respiration, the chief was called for medical assistance and a life was saved.
