ANTONITO — La Isla resident Celina Maria Romero, 99, went home to be with the Lord on March 25, 2020, at the Conejos County Hospital in the company of Angels. Celina was born on August 14, 1920, in Calcite, the daughter of Lucas Lujan and Rebecca Montoya Lujan.
She worked as a cook for the Conejos/Costilla Head Start for many years. Celina was an exceptional and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed spending time with family and extended family, watching Dr. Oz, doing word search puzzles and reading books and magazines on health and nutrition.
She will live on through her daughters: Claudine (Charlie) Manchego of Bountiful; Theresa (Edward) Velasquez of Rio Rancho; Rosey Martinez of Aurora; Norma (Bernie) Romero of Lobato’s; Bernice (Sheldon) Clark of Oceanside, CA; Roanne (Ron) Gonzales of Denver; sons: Medward Romero Jr., of Bountiful; Gerald (Shellie) Romero of Alamosa; Ronald (Tammy) Romero of Richfield; Timothy (Leonore) Romero of Antonito; Gabriel Romero of Del Norte; Mitchell Romero of La Isla; Johnny (Margaret) Romero of Lakewood; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sisters: Virginia LaFranco of Placerville, CA; Lillian Baltazar of Sacramento, CA.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Medward F. Romero; sisters: Cordelia DeHerrera, Esther DeHerrera and one brother, Louis Lujan.
