Our tia Marty worked in the spinach fields as a teenager and then graduated in 1962 from Sierra Grande High School. She later moved to the city where she was a waitress at the Woolworth café in Downtown Denver. She then moved back to the valley and was a waitress at Jameel's Lounge. She attended TSJC and received her Nurses Aid Certificate and started working at the San Luis Care Center. Her last and final job was at the Blanca Potato where she made many years of memories with all her co-workers, especially Aunt Patsy, Adela, Monica, San Juanita and Victor.
Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. She loved to plant a garden, ceramic class, yard sales, and watching the food network, Denver Nuggets, and her Broncos. She would walk over to her sisters every morning to have a cup of coffee and even leave mad sometimes over silly stuff. Even though our tia was a rooster at times she sure knew how to have a good time and was always ready for a few tsp of tequila and a few puffs all while singing and dancing with everyone.
Services will be held May 23 at the Blanca-Ft. Garland Community Center starting with a viewing at 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m.
