Former San Luis Valley resident and current Houston, Texas resident Carlton L. Sage Jr., 88, died Jan. 16, 2023, in La Jara, Colo.
Carlton was born in Trinity, Texas on Oct. 11, 1934, the son of Carlton L. Sage Sr., and Gladys Smith Sage. He married his wife of more than 44 years, Marian Peterson, on June 24, 1978, in Houston, Texas.
Carlton served in the United States Army during the Cuban Missile Crises. He was a hard worker and put himself through school earning his Doctorate in Dentistry, all while working and raising his family. His career as a Dentist would endure for more than 50 years.
Carlton was also an EMT with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, and was a private pilot and loved flying to Colorado. Carlton participated in the Senior Olympics Track and Field for many years. He is remembered as being a very kind and loving person.
He is survived by his wife Marian Sage of Houston, Texas; their children Buzzy and Ericka Sage of Boerne, Texas, Joe Sage of Austin, Texas, Johnathan Sage of California, and Megan and Justin Peter of Spring, Texas; his grandchildren Benjamin, Dillon, Sydni, Ella, Jackson, and Dallas; his sister Judy and John Woolems of Dallas, Texas; his niece Julie and Todd Doshier of Dallas, Texas; his sister-in-law Elaine Peterson of Houston, Texas; as well as numerous extended family in East Texas, hundreds of life-long friends, patients, co-workers and associates. He is also survived by his best buddy Barney his beagle.
Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date.
