Our Mom, Candelaria (Candy) Garcia, was called away to a life promised to her for being of a strong Catholic faith March 3, 2025. She was born to Candelaria (Martinez) Trujillo and Pedro Trujillo on Jan. 13,1929 in Antonito, Colo.
Her mother died when Candy was two years old, and her father died when she was six. She was raised by maternal grandparents Lucas and Fedelina Martinez and older sister Elvera Trujillo.
Candy married Joe James Garcia in 1949 and had three children. Mom was always there for us, working jobs that took her away from home only while we were in school. She valued education and encouraged us to work hard, progressing and not limiting ourselves. She set the example by doing her daily exercises which she did until the pandemic closed her gym for good. This kept her physically and mentally strong.
She enjoyed cooking traditional dishes and trying new recipes. She loved hosting dinners for family and friends. She welcomed everyone even if they arrived unexpectedly. She was active in the community and church. She loved Antonito and the people. Candy lived in Antonito until 1994 when she and Dad moved to Lakewood, Colo.
Candy was preceded in death by her husband, son Jimmy, sister Elvera (Luciano) Sandoval, brothers Alphonso (Consuelo) Trujillo and Teodoro Trujillo, and all her sisters and brothers in law.
Candy is survived by daughter Gloria Garcia (Joe Colcleasure), son Gilbert (Ruth) Garcia, grandson Gilbert Jr. (Sarah) Garcia, granddaughter Kandace (Chuck) Matzker, great grandchildren Sage Garcia, River Garcia, Aja Matzker, Lily Garcia, Mason Matzker, Ginger Garcia and great-great granddaughter Daisy Mahsem, and numerous nephews, nieces and their families, brother-in-law Melvin Chilton.
