Mandy Pittman and her daughters Hannah, 2, and Bethany, 10, look at the zucchini growing at the ASU Campus Garden during Bikes and Bites on Wednesday. The garden also grows beets, radishes, kale, peas and other vegetables and herbs.

Keanan Turmenne, a sophomore clinical psychology major at Adams State University, explains the mission of the ASU Campus Garden to Bikes and Bites participants on Wednesday. The garden that was just planted this summer was funded and initiated by ASU students to address food insecurity. Everything grown is available to students first, the campus food pantry second and then anything remaining goes the Food Bank Network of the San Luis Valley.

The bike tour started with appetizers at the Rio Grande Farm Park and after the salad course the group went to the Alamosa Community Greenhouse for dinner and the Boyd Community Garden for dessert.
