Alamosa resident Betty Jean Brubacher, 92, died Jan. 29, 2023, at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born in Mosca, Colo., on Dec. 9, 1930, the daughter of Otis B. Cooley and Alice Charlotte Harriett Wilson Cooley. She married the love of her life, William “Bill” O. Brubacher on Nov. 11, 1951. He preceded her in death in June of 2017.
Betty attended school in Mosca and graduated from Mosca High School. She worked for nearly 15 years at the Alamosa State Bank, owned and operated a Diet Center for about 18 years, and worked for H&R Block for 26 years, retiring in 2014.
Betty was active in PTA, school activities, and attended all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. She taught piano and accordion for a time, and she and her husband Bill taught square dancing lessons for 28 years.
In her spare time, Betty enjoyed camping and spending time at their cabin with all her family. She traveled to all 50 states and 11 foreign countries. Her hobbies were making quilts for all her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, knitting, and crocheting. Betty donated some of her quilts to Victim’s Advocacy.
She was an avid sports fan and followed the Denver Nuggets, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Colorado Avalanche.
Betty is survived by her daughters Bonnie (Tyler) Ratzlaff of Monte Vista, Colo., and Rhonda (Randy) Timmins of Alamosa, Colo.; daughter-in-law Jodie Brubacher; eight grandchildren: Royce (Tammy), Brandon (Tiffany), Jarrod, Derrick (Lena), Rochelle (Chris), Brittney (Chris), Matt (Christina), and Casie (Ben); 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way; five great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, her son Craig Brubacher, her siblings Bobby Cooley, Bill (Alice) Cooley, and Bonnie (Don) Walker; and her step-mother Thelma Cooley.
Cremation was chosen and a private memorial service will be held in the summer.
