Del Norte resident Betty E. Atencio, 98, passed away Oct. 13, 2024, at her home in Denver, Colo., surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on May 14, 1926, in Cerro, N.M., the daughter of Antonio and Elisa Segura Archuleta.
Betty was united in marriage to Antonio Archuleta on Jan. 9, 1950. Betty was a warm and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who always had a beautiful smile.
Betty was involved in many organizations throughout her life, VFW Auxiliary, Sociedad Bonifacio Independente, Holy Family Society, Legion of Mary to mention a few.
Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilt making, canning, baking, but above all she cherished the time she spent with her grandkids that held a very special place in her heart.
Betty was very religious and always put God first in her life knowing he was always there for her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Betty’s legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings and friends.
Survivors include her daughter Cristable Muncy (Randy Spencer) of Westminster, Colo., sons; Del (Mary) Atencio, Lakewood, Bob (Shirley) Atencio, Las Vegas, Nev., Joe Atencio of Lakewood, Colo.; daughter-in-law Shirley Atencio, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Max Atencio, grandson Michael Muncy, her parents Antonio Archuleta and Elisa Segura Archuleta, her son Max (Sharon) Atencio, four brothers; Adelmo, Dennis, Joe, and Flavio Archuleta, four sisters; Margarita Vigil, Mary Silva, Delfinia Chavez, and Arabela Archuleta.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary was held on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Del Norte. A Mass of the Resurrection was held on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. also at the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Del Norte Cemetery.
