Beryl Ida (Norman) Bussey, 89, passed away on Nov. 21, 2024, in The Bridge at Alamosa, with family by her side. She was born on Feb. 11, 1935, to Reginald Norman and Kathleen Laura (Gardiner) Norman in Newmarket, England.

She loved sharing memories of growing up on the farm near Newmarket, the horse racing capital of England. She shared many stories of her impactful experiences as a young girl in England during WWII. An airstrip was constructed on the farm and an RAF Bomber Squadron was stationed there throughout the war. Beryl met and married Lauren “Larry” Bussey in London where he was stationed with the United States Navy. After the birth of their first child Steven, Larry was transferred back to the U.S. to complete his service with the Navy. Upon his discharge, they resided in Ann Arbor, Mich., where Larrry enrolled at the University of Michigan. After son Duane and daughter Laurie were born, Larry received his college degree and the family relocated to the Pleasant Valley area of Colorado Springs, Colo., near the Garden of the Gods. Two more sons, Paul and Christopher were born, completing their family.

Beryl was a talented and creative artist who loved sewing, knitting, embroidering, crafting and upholstering. She was also an amazing cook. While raising her family, she was a soccer coach, a Cub Scout and Brownie leader and a swim meet official. She also worked as a school para-professional in Colorado Springs and as an insurance agent.

Beryl and Larry divorced in 1988. She met William “Ted” Crenshaw while she was working as an insurance agent. They enjoyed 12 years together and lived in Monument, Colo., Bardstown, Ky., and Pueblo West, Colo. After Ted’s passing in 2002, Beryl lived a short time in Albuquerque, N.M., before relocating to Littleton, Colo., and finally settling in Alamosa for the last 7 years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ted Crenshaw, her sister Dorothy Dilnot and her daughter Laurie Lynn Bussey.

Beryl was a wonderful “Mum” who leaves behind her sons Steven (Katherine Connors) Bussey, Littleton, Colo., Duane (Lorelei) Bussey, Alamosa, Colo., Paul (Wendy Dutton) Bussey, Phoenix, Ariz., and Christopher Bussey, Denver, Colo. Her grandchildren are Emily Bussey (Ozelle Jamestown), Erica Bussey, Katlyn Bussey Mayes (Chris Mayes), Logan Gamble (Vinton Matthews), and Jacy Gamble; great-grandchildren include Zoey Jamestown, Kaleeq Jamestown, Khamai Jamestown, Zaheed Jamestown, Ava Matthews and Ollie Matthews.

The family extends sincere appreciation to the caregivers and staff of The Bridge at Alamosa, especially as Beryl’s health declined.

Cremation has been chosen and a family celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Alamosa Senior Citizens Center, La Puente Home, or a cause of your choosing in memory of Beryl Bussey.
