Bertral ‘Bertie’ Vidella DePriest Bagwell

Well-known and long-time Manassa resident, Bertral “Bertie” Vidella DePriest Bagwell, 83, passed away Jan. 14, 2024, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa, Colo.

Bertie’s life began in Fox Creek, Colo., on Oct. 27, 1940, to Berton Ray and Minnie Vidella Broyles DePriest. She met her sweetheart, Stancil Bagwell Sr., and was united in marriage and sealed for time and all eternity on Oct. 20, 1983, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Bertie worked in the lunchroom at Manassa Elementary for 17 years. Later, she joined Stancil working on the ranch. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings in the church, including Basketball Coach for Young Women’s, and most recently Librarian for the Manassa Second Ward. She enjoyed her callings immensely.

One of her favorite activities was spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren.

Bertie is survived by her husband Stancil Bagwell Sr., of Manassa, Colo.; her children Scott (Pam) Bagwell of Colorado City, Colo., and Carl (Annie) Bagwell of Manassa, Colo. They were blessed with six grandchildren: Gerald, Hailey, Sarah, Stephanie, Brock, and Brooke; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Alfred “Roscoe” (Elsie) DePriest, and Norma Jean (Kevin) McQuiller; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Bertie was preceded in death by her parents Berton and Minnie DePriest, her siblings Vernon, June, and Katherine, and her children Bobbie and Stancil Jr.

A Visitation will be held at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 22, from 10-10:45 a.m. in the Primary Room at the Church. A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2024, at the Manassa Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will follow services in the Manassa-Romeo Cemetery.
