ALAMOSA — Results from the autopsy of a woman’s body who was found in Costilla County last week will likely not be made public for six weeks, says the Costilla County Coroner’s Office, adding that the El Paso County coroner is conducting the autopsy and the process, including compiling a written report, typically takes that long.
Those results are of special interest to residents of the Sangre de Cristo Ranches Subdivision where the woman was found near Platten Road as marks on her body indicate that there was possibly an attack by some type of animal, leaving bite marks and scratches.
A number of questions are waiting to be answered – what type of animal left the marks, did the attack happen while the woman was alive, possibly contributing to her death, or were the bites made after she was deceased.
To get more information, the Valley Courier reached out on Friday to Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Costilla County coroner but received no further details by press time on Friday.
The woman’s identity has not been released.
As was previously reported in the Valley Courier, the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) received a report of a woman’s body on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 23, at which time deputies were dispatched to Platten Road in the Indian Creek Subdivision of the Sangre de Cristo Ranches.
A post on the Costill County Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page made several days after the incident has not yet been updated and continues to read, “If you live in or around or visit the area, be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Deputies have hiked the immediate area with the assistance of CBI and were not able to locate anything to identify the animal.”
