Augustin Alex Padilla, a lifelong resident of San Luis, Colo., passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, 2025, in Colorado Springs, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in San Luis, Colo., on June 23, 1929. 

Augustin was preceded in his death by his parents, Atanacio “Tanner” Padilla and Lupita Padilla Esquibel, his beloved son Brian Padilla, grandson Anthony Padilla, sisters Mary Cordova and Henrietta Garcia, and special uncle and aunt Otoniel “Rusty” and Josephine Esquibel. 

He is survived by his loving wife Dora Padilla of 66 years, his children Vernon and Jeffrey (Pauline) Padilla, sister Rosenda Martinez, grandchildren Derek Padilla, Mario (Halie) Padilla, Ryan Padilla, Tanya (Billy) Salazar, Karlos (Janna) Padilla, and Shayleen Padilla, sisters-in-law Mena (Sam) Lucero, and Wilma Quintana. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, many family members and countless friends. 

Augustin was a proud Veteran who served courageously in the Korean war as a litter-bearer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 142, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6101, and Disabled American Veterans. After serving his country, Augustin and Dora started many businesses namely the Shamrock Service Station and Liquor Store and the San Luis Inn. Augustin also encouraged and helped several family members start their own businesses. Augustin was well-known for his strong work ethic, his life-long friendships, sense of humor, and strong community involvement. 

Cremation has taken place at Augustin’s request. Rosary will be held on Feb. 8 at the Sangre de Cristo Parish in San Luis, Colo., at 10:30 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m. Ashes will be interred at the San Luis Cemetery following the services. A dinner will be held at the Centennial High School gymnasium after the Interment.
