Sanford resident Arthur Ray Gurule, 60, passed away November 21, 2017 at the Conejos County Hospital with his loving family at his side. Arthur was born on January 17, 1957 in Pueblo, Colorado, the son of Elisardo Gurule and Nettie Velasquez Gurule. He worked for the Sanford School district for many years and during his time there is where Arthur made his many friends and lasting impressions on everyone he met. Arthur was united in marriage to Geraldine O’Cana on April 25, 1975 in Conejos, Colorado. The two shared a long and happy union until his passing. He was a kind, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed going fishing, camping, gambling, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Geraldine Gurule of Sanford, CO; mother Nettie Gurule of Pueblo, CO; daughters Melissa Gurule (Sharon Alire) of Rio Rancho, NM; Crystal (Jacob) Jones of Sanford, CO; sons Arthur (Michelle) Gurule Jr., of Alamosa, CO; Kenny (Colette) Gurule of Manassa, CO; Charles (Celina) Gurule of Sanford, CO; 9 grandchildren, sisters Rosann Gurule of Albuquerque, NM; Theresa (Steve) Medina of Sanford, CO; brothers Jimmy (Pat) Gurule of Pueblo, CO; Adolph (Josie) Martinez of Espanola, NM; Danny (Peggy) Gurule of Pueblo, CO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Arthur was preceded in death by his father Elisardo Gurule, grandson Kenneth Jones, brothers Toby Gurule, Eddie Gurule and Duke Gurule.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM also at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Sanford Cemetery. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
