In celebration of the life of Arnold T Mortensen, who passed away Jan. 14, 2024, funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sanford, Colo.

Arnold was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Alamosa, Colo., a twin son to Grant and Louise Mortensen.

He graduated from Sanford High School and Adams State College. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

On March 21, 1957, he married Alice Rae Hutchins, and they had four children, David, Shane, Lorin and Keri. 

Arnold was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many leadership positions where he gave compassionate service to others. 

Arnold spent many years as an educator and an administrator in Aztec, N.M., and Sanford, Colo. As a teacher his love of math carried over to many students, and his time as a principal inspired many to strive to be their best.

His love of farming and ranching provided many happy hours for his children and grandchildren. 

Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and four brothers.

He is survived by his children, David (Valorie) Mortensen of Dolores, Colo., Shane (Jamie) Mortensen of Sanford, Colo., Lorin (Rebecca) Mortensen of Smithfield, Utah, Keri (Sean) Connolly of San Tan Valley, Ariz., and by 17 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill (Julie) Mortensen of Sanford, Colo., Carl (Carlene) Mortensen of Lubbock, Texas, and Lars (Valorie) Mortensen of Hyrum, Utah, as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
