Anselmo Quintana

Longtime Conejos resident Anselmo "Chemo" Fidel Quintana, 94, was called home on Feb 4, 2023. He passed away peacefully, with his loving family at his side. Born on Jan. 6, 1929, in San Antonio, Colo., Anselmo was the beloved son of Juan E. Quintana and Amanda (Lopez) Quintana.

After he graduated high school, he went on to enlist and serve in the United States Army. Anselmo served in the service faithfully for over 23 years. After he retired from the Army, he went on to manage the Dutch Mill Restaurant.

He was united in marriage to Mercedes D. Garcia on Dec. 21, 1968. They shared a happy and loving union until her passing in 2014.

Anselmo was a member of the V.F.W., The American Legion and the Senior Citizens Center of Antonito. Anselmo loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, cards and was an avid sports fan. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and family as well as visit friends.

Anselmo was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Amanda Quintana, his beloved wife Mercedes Quintana, six brothers and one sister.

He will live on through his son Tony (Annette) Quintana of Conejos, Colo.; grandchildren Rose Quintana, Tiffany Quintana (Jerald Montoya), Toni Quintana, Venessa (Wes) Medina, Greg Medina, great-grandchildren Zavian and Waylon Romero, Jaxton and Brooke Montoya, Aylah Trujillo, Eastyn Salas, Mykala, Nyielle and Dominic Bugg, sisters-in-law Shirley Duran and Gloria Garcia. He is also survived by many other extended family members and friends.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, from 12-4 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. Rosary will be on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at 10 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery.
