ALAMOSA – The Alamosa 18U baseball team hosted its annual tournament this past weekend at Ortega Middle School.
What was originally planned to be a six-team, two-pool tournament was reduced to a four-team round-robin event after two teams withdrew.
The tournament came down to the last game as Alamosa and Monte Vista played for the championship. The Mean Moose prevailed over the Pirates by a score of 12-8.
“We had a couple of games where there wasn’t much competition, so it was kind of hard coming into the competition with Monte Vista,” said Alamosa coach Tony Kechter. “But our guys stepped up and did a great job today.”
Alamosa fell behind in the first inning of each game but had a big inning later to get the win.
“We have that from the regular season up to now,” Kechter said. “We have to find something to where we don’t get into that role of catch-up. Hopefully, we can find that at the start of next year.”
