Alamosa sweeps Zaragoza Meet races

ALAMOSA – The annual Larry Zaragoza Invitational took place on Friday at Cole Park with both Alamosa High School cross country teams winning championships.

A total of 65 boys and 57 girls took part in this year’s event.

Alamosa

The Mean Moose won the boys meet with 20 points. They were led by Ethan Merrick who finished in first place in 16:34.33. Also scoring for Alamosa were Jeremiah DeLaCerda who was second in 17:15.75, Brody Artaechevarria who was third in 17:28.28, Cael Canaan who was fifth in 18:02.65, Jayce Johnson who was ninth in 18:53.20, Cody DiCamilo who was 13th in 19:42.23, and Jack Daniel Lopez who was 14th in 19:45.26.

Other Mean Moose runners included Danny Lopez who was 17th in 19:55.26, Andy Hernandez who was 41st in 23:30.19, Julius Montoya who was 52nd in 24:45.37, and Matthew Hollingsworth who was 54th in 25:03.13.

Alamosa also won the girls meet with 34 points. Leading the Mean Moose were Hannah DeLaCerda who was second in 20:53.10, Olivia Formisano who was third in 21:27.72, Vanessa Villalva who was fifth in 21:44.51, Abigail Adams who was 14th in 23:16.25, Braelyn Cisneros who was 15th in 23:36.52, Camryn Zook who was 22nd in 24:37.34, and Maren Formisano who was 27th in 25:22.33.

Also running for the Alamosa girls were Gizelle Meraz who was 31st in 25:38.06, Isabella Lopez who was 32nd in 25:43.95, Daelyn Jackson who was 33rd in 25:47.55, Catherine Tomas who was 44th in 28:59.28, Paityn Semore who was 50th in 31:14.96, and Isabelle Estrada who was 53rd in 34:10.82.

Centauri

The Falcons were fourth in the boys meet with 89 points. They were led by Lincoln Bagwell who was fourth in 17:38.92, Ethan Martinez who was 15th in 19:47.02, Rhett Taylor who was 18th in 19:55.31, Gavin Graber who was 20th in 20:10.60, Joey Torres who was 42nd in 23:39.24, Liam Sowards who was 44th in 23:41.11, Rylun Polkowske who was 46th in 23:58.40, and Wheeler Larson who was 47th in 24:15.21.

The Centauri girls placed second with 48 points. Leading the Falcons were Kourtney Heikes who was sixth in 21:54.03, McKenzie Torres who was seventh in 22:20.74, Genesi Morris who was 11th in 22:49.28, Bailey Graber who was 13th in 23:13.21, Lyndie Sowards who was 17th in 23:47.51, Brooklyn Shawcroft who was 28th in 25:29.58, and Alyvia Norton who was 29th in 26:32.41.

Also running for Centauri were Sienna Taylor who was 34th in 26:05.46, Harper Russell who was 37th in 27:05.52, Juliana Rendon who was 38th in 27:27.01, Rylie Sowards who was 41st in 27:54.70, Jeana Dunn who was 42nd in 28:01.24, and Beijah Sowards who was 43rd in 28:33.72.

Del Norte

Del Norte was second in the boys race with71 points. The Tigers were led by Mads Kreutzer who was seventh in 18:09.16, Jax Lester who was eighth in 18:43.52, Cruz Matta who was 11th in 19:20.10, Landon Crowder who was 19th in 20:02.53, Jose Pinon who was 28th in 20:54.77, Corbin Horrocks who was 35th in 21:58.76, and Justin Ast who was 49th in 24:22.28.

Del Norte was third in the girls meet with 69 points, and they were led by Scarlett Maxwell who was fourth in 21:29.44, Indie Howe who was ninth in 22:39.93, Faith Crowder who was 19th in 24:19,92, Ella Cowett who was 21st in 24:26.98, and Brianna Kaufman Brigham who was 25th in 24:56.61.

Antonito

Antonito was seventh in the boys race with 215 points. The Trojans were led by Kyle Sisneros who was 56th in 25:47.70, Anthony Llanez who was 57th in 27:57.42, Joe Ray Rmero who was 58th in 20:00.63, Steven Velasquez who was 59th in 30:49.29, and Nick Mondragon who was 61st in 32:02.41.

The Troajns were sixth in the girls race with 146 points. They were led by Faith Medellin who was 20th in 24:26.08, Minerva Gonzalez who was 48th in 30:18.08, Eliana Garcia who was 49th in 30:44.33, Evolet Garcia who was 55th in 35:28.64, Anali Garcia who was 56th in 38:40.45, and Jada Gutierrez who was 57th in 39:15.54.

Center

The Vikings had only two runners in the boys race. Kevin Tomas-Lopez was 40th in 23:19.87, and Romero Villagomez-Juarez was 55th in 25:42.73.

Center had only four girl runners. Jaylah Martinez was 24th in 24:54.59, Anahlicia Villagomez was 39th in 27:36.99, Lavine Casas Hernandez who was 52nd in 33:38.49, and Shyanne Suazo who was 54th in 35:28.33.

Monte Vista

The Pirates had only three male runners. Matthieu Dean was 32nd in 21:31.92, Haven Heredia was 43rd in 23:40.37, and Logan Hernandez was 62nd in 32:12.23.

Monte Vista had two runners in the girls race, but it did have the top overall finisher in Shae Romero who won the race in 20:46.29. Also running for the Pirates was Anahi Murrietta who was 40th in 27:40.11.

Sargent

Sargent had only one runner in the boys race in Lars Witzke who was 39th in 23:01.80.

The Farmers had two girl runners in Madeline Mitchell who was 16th in 23:44.71, and Sydney Curtis who was 30th in 25:33.77.

Sierra Grande

The Panthers entered four runners in the boys race. Daniel Rodriguez was 53rd in 24:58.51, Ashton Sampson was 60th in 3:45.82, Brylee Forrester was 63rd in 33:48.01, and Eugene Allaart was 65th in 34:20.45.
