Alamosa hosted a Tri on Saturday Sept. 16th, coming up short against Centauri 3-1 and besting Montezuma-Cortez 3-0 in the second for an even split over the weekend.

Alamosa splits Tri with Centauri and Montezuma-Cortez

Alamosa senior Ashley Ramirez (12) and junior Sylivie Caton (14) go up to block Centauri senior Ember Canty. Caton recorded two blocks on the match.

ALAMOSA— Alamosa hosted a Tri on Saturday Sept. 16th, coming up short against Centauri 3-1 and besting Montezuma-Cortez 3-0 in the second for an even split over the weekend.
Last time Centauri saw Alamosa was last year in October which Alamosa won by a score of 3 sets to 0.


This time Alamosa battled Centauri in the first set forcing it to go past the match point falling 28-26. Then the Mean Moose controlled the second set taking it  by a score of 25-17. Alamosa then proceeded to keep the last two sets close falling by 6 points or less getting edged by Centauri 3 sets to 1.
Alamosa then took out some frustrations on Montezuma-Cortez winning each set by at least 8 points to take the match 3-0 Centauri took down Montezuma-Cortez 3 sets to 1 to finalize the Tri.

The Alamosa Rowdy crowd donned black headbands and even a few capes to support the AHS volleyball team Saturday in a back and forth match that saw the Centauri Lady Falcons come out on top, 3-1.


Sylvie Caton and Ashley Ramirez led the Mean Moose attack on Saturday. Caton stacked up 21 kills on the day bringing her season total to a team leading 44. While Ramirez found enough open space to rack up 10 aces that morning, which is her season total and catapults her to second on the team. The number one spot belongs to Lexi Ortega who has accumulated 11 aces. Defensively Alamosa was lead by Taylor Motz. Motz added 2 blocks over the weekend to make a team leading 8 blocks on the season.
 Alamosa will get an opportunity to avenge a loss in a rematch on the road against Bayfield this Saturday Sept. 23rd.
