Alamosa school board honors athletes, hires new coaches

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa School District Board of Education got to take part in celebrating the accomplishments of the district’s athletes along with hearing other important updates during its November meeting.

The cross county coaches from Ortega Middle School, McQuitty and DeLaCerda, proudly presented trophies that students brought home from the 2018 Colorado State Cross Country meet. Board Member Mandy Jackson also commended the Alamosa High School girls volleyball team for reaching the state tournament noting the level of competition was very high.

Superintendent Rob Alejo gave an update to the board on election results. Amendment 73 failed. There will now be other options for funding such as a mill levee that will be up for consideration at the state level.

The hiring of new coaches for the winter sports season was also approved. The new hires include Ann Brewer and Katelynn Gillen as softball coaches and David Judd as boys basketball C-team coach at OMS. Desiree Naranjo will be the new school secretary for AES.
