ALAMOSA – With a 50-50 match from Colorado Rotary District 5470, the Alamosa Rotary Club contributed $2,200 to the Alamosa Police Department K-9 enforcement program.
Corporal Cody VanRy and his K-9 partner Goose and Officer Javier Moreno and K-9 Kilo were on hand Monday at the club’s bi-monthly meeting to accept the award. Both K-9s are Belgian Malinois, one of the most popular breeds of police dogs.
Suggestions made by Rotary grant writer Dawn Krebs for the K-9 unit included first aid kits, dog beds, specific dog treats, K-9 narcotic overdose emergency kits and “popper boxes,” which are used to help assist with narcotics detection training. The final decision of what to purchase was left to the K-9 officers.
