ALAMOSA — After an October that was one of the wettest months Alamosa has enjoyed in recent memory, a significant snowstorm moved into the Valley on Wednesday and has been dropping snow off and on ever since.
According to Mike Nosko, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo, San Luis Valley Regional Airport is measuring total snowfall so far at 6.3 inches with 3.4 inches falling in the last 24 hours.
Unlike to the east where the snow was a little wetter, the snow that fell in Alamosa had a water equivalent of just 52/100 inch. The lower water equivalent, Nosko said, is due to the colder temperatures, adding that the low last night was 21 degrees.
At press time on Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for the San Luis Valley through 5 a.m., Saturday.
Due to the inclement weather, many school districts across the Valley canceled classes on Thursday.
