DELTA — The Alamosa High School baseball team lost 12-2 to Valley High School (Gilcrest) in the district region 8 tournament at Delta on Saturday. The Mean Moose jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Caden Alonzo drove in Kolten Hillis with a single to right. Mason Barrows then drove in Tyler Zimmerman with a sacrifice fly.
Valley evened things up at two in the bottom of the second inning and took the lead for good with two runs in the third and five in the fifth.
“We started out great, but the mistakes mounted up and we couldn’t dig ourselves out of the hole. This is a very young team, and it was our first experience in post-season play with these guys. I’m excited about their potential; we’ll have pretty much everyone back next year. We’ll continue to put in the work this summer and look forward to next season,” commented Head Coach Jason Romero.
Junior Chance Strand got the start for AHS, going three innings allowing eight hits, 6 runs, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Jonathan Lujan came in the fourth allowing 1 hit 2 walks and 2 runs. Tyler Zimmerman pitched one inning allowing 2 hits and 4 runs.
Ivan Rodriquez picked up the win for the Vikings allowing 7 hits, one walk and 6 strikeouts.
Leading the Moose at the plate was first baseman Alonzo, going 2-3 with an RBI. Hillis, Zimmerman, Strand, Adam Crowder and Gage Calder each picked up a hit.
Alamosa ended the season with a 13-6 record, finishing second in the Intermountain League.
