Agnes ‘Natcha’ Garcia

Posted

Agnes “Natcha” Garcia was born on July 18, 1948, in Alamosa, Colo., and from that moment on, the world had a little more spice and sass in it. She peacefully passed on April 13, 2025, in Denver, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Telesfor “Teles” Garcia; her beloved son, Duane; and her infant daughter, Loretta all of whom we imagine are now sitting around a heavenly kitchen table, playing cards with other family members and swapping stories.

She is survived by her sister and lifelong best friend, Elva Cunningham, who shared so many laughs, tears, and joyful moments with her over the years. She also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who were lucky enough to know her fierce loyalty and even fiercer Mexican hamburgers with green chile.

Natcha had a lot of favorite things: gambling, cooking, feeding anyone who came through the door (whether they were hungry or not), and owls that filled her home. But above all, she loved Buddy, her husband’s once-loyal sidekick who became her own, and the self-appointed guardian of her kitchen. Not a single bite of food touched her lips without Buddy getting his “fair share.”

Natcha was small in stature but mighty in spirit. She loved hard, laughed loud, and had absolutely no filter which, honestly, made her company that much better. Whether you called her Mom, Sister, Tía, or Friend, you knew that when she was in your corner, you had someone who’d show up with a bowl of Duane Stew and an open heart for your stories. She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4377 Utica St., Denver, Colo. The Rosary will begin at 9 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Natcha would probably suggest you treat yourself to something fun, cook a meal for someone you love, and maybe sneak the dog a bite or two.
