Dyson Woodward named Quarterback of the Year

ALAMOSA – The Intermountain League released its All-League football team in mid-November with 10 players from Alamosa High School being recognized.

Half of the players are on the first team and they are led by senior Dyson Woodward who was also named the Quarterback of the Year.

Woodward led the Mean Moose in both rushing and passing. He gained 1,285 yards on 149 carries and he also scored 12 touchdowns. He also completed 76 out of 145 passes for 1,175 yards and he had nine touchdown passes. That accounts for 2,460 yards of total offense and 21 touchdowns accounted for.

Also placed on the first team were senior running back/linebacker Zane Zook, senior offensive lineman/linebacker Landon Garcia, senior wide receiver/defensive back/kicker Ryan Higareda, and junior offensive lineman/defensive lineman Josh Gonzalez.

Zook ran for 956 yards on 146 carries and seven touchdowns, and he had 11 receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown. On defense, he had 44 total tackles, 4 ½ sacks, two fumble recoveries and he scored one touchdown on defense.

Landon Garcia had 70 tackles, one sack and one interception.

Higareda had one carry for 30 yards, and 13 catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he had 33 tackles, and three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. As a kicker, he made 21 out of 26 PATs and one out of three field goal attempts.

Gonzalez had 23 tackles and one sack.

The remaining five players were honorable mention selections. The list includes senior wide receiver/linebacker Carlos Garcia, senior wide receiver/linebacker Brayden Moeller, senior wide receiver Kevin Gonzales, junior wide receiver/defensive back Tony Griego, and sophomore offensive lineman/defensive lineman Zavier Zepeda.

Carlos Garcia had four receptions for 32 yards, 41 tackles, 1 ½ sacks and one interception.

Moeller had nine receptions for 109 yards and 32 tackles.

Gonzales had 22 receptions for 567 yards and three touchdowns.

Griego had had 59 yards on six carries and one touchdown, and two receptions for 22 yards. On defense, he had 37 tackles and three interceptions.

The rest of the special awards were earned by Montezuma-Cortez’s Tay Wheat who was named the Most Valuable Player, and Aden Ray who was the Offensive Lineman of the Year.

For Pagosa Springs, Aven Cole was the Defensive Lineman of the Year, Colton Lucero was the Running Back of the Year, and Nathan Morales was the Coach of the Year.

For Bayfield, Ayden Casillas was the Kicker of the Year, and Lincoln Williams was the Wide Receiver of the Year.

Salida’s Casen Pridemore was the Linebacker of the Year, and Gunnison’s Grady Buckhanan was the Wide Receiver of the Year.

Montezuma-Cortez had 12 total All-League selections, Gunnison had eight, Pagosa Springs had seven, Salida had five and Bayfield had three.
