The Colorado High School Activities Association released its All-State baseball teams last week with 11 student-athletes from the San Luis Valley being recognized. All 11 are honorable mention selections in their respective classifications.

The annual Alamosa 18U Tournament came to an end Saturday at Ortega Middle School. The games on Saturday included Alamosa defeating Center 19-1 for fifth place, Monte Vista defeating the Alamosa JV team 10-0 for third place, and Lamar crushing Bayfield 16-0 in the championship game.

The annual Alamosa 18U Baseball tournament got underway Friday at Ortega Middle School with four local teams competing. However, it will be the two out of town teams that will play for the championship today.

The Intermountain League released its All-League girls soccer team in May with six members of the Alamosa High School team being recognized.

The Colorado High School Activities Association released its All-State girls soccer teams on Friday with two members of the Alamosa High School team being recognized. The two Lady Mean Moose players are junior goalkeeper Emmy Tibbitts and sophomore midfielder Jayden Wubben.

The Adams State University men’s basketball team is hosting its Little Dribblers camp beginning on Monday and ending on Wednesday.

A total of seven San Luis Valley high school graduate student-athletes will be competing in the Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State Games which will take place June 11-14 at CSU Pueblo.

The Grizzlies continued to compete at the 2024 Outdoor Track Nationals in Emporia Kansas, and at the end of the three days, the women scored 72 points which resulted in a second-place finish behind the champions of the meet, Pitt State.

Four six-man football players have been selected to play in the Kansas-Colorado Kickoff Classic which will take place Saturday in Dodge City, Kan. Two of the locals are graduates of Sierra Grande High School while the remaining two are from Mountain Valley. All will play for the Colorado South team.

Area runners are encouraged to register in advance for the Manassa Pioneer Days 5K to avoid waiting in line on race day.

Chad Mortensen of Alamosa won the 2024 Rio Trio event which took place Saturday around the State Street Bridge and near Cattails Golf Course. Chris Sachs of Nederland was second. Aubrey Damiatti of Salida was the top female placer and she also finished fifth overall, while Dani Robbens of Alamosa was second among the women and sixth overall. The Rio Trio consisted of a 5K run, a 3-mile paddle on the Rio Grande Rivers, and a 7-mile bike race.

The season came to an ended for the seventh-ranked Monte Vista High School baseball team as it was defeated by third-ranked Las Animas 5-0 in the Class 2A State Tournament Saturday at the Runyon Sports Complex’s Andenucio Field.
