Dr. Cecil Craig Layton passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 7, 2024, at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in La Jara, Colo. Born in Ruislip, England, on July 28, 1961, to parents Allan and Valerie Layton. Throughout his 63 years, Craig’s radiant presence was a source of joy to those fortunate enough to know him.
Shirley Ann Sierra (Garcia) was born on March 1, 1957, in Center, Colo., and lived to be 67 years old. Shirley moved on from this life as we know it on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at Common Spirit Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1932, in Antonito to Ismael and Brenilda Rodriguez. He attended school in La Jara where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He worked hard with his team as a quarterback to bring a State Championship home in football his senior year. He honorably served in the Navy for four years during the Korean War where he was stationed in Guam and San Diego.
Del Norte resident Betty E. Atencio, 98, passed away Oct. 13, 2024, at her home in Denver, Colo., surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on May 14, 1926, in Cerro, N.M., the daughter of Antonio and Elisa Segura Archuleta.
