Ricky Lee Shaw, a beloved father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Jan. 21, 2025, at the age of 57. He was born on Oct. 7, 1967, in Alamosa, Colo. 

Antonito resident Lucy T. Jaramillo passed away on Jan. 18, 2025. Lucy was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Alamosa, Colo. 

Marvin Gale Divine, 73, lost his battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) on Jan. 11, 2025. Marvin was born in Alamosa, Colo., on Nov. 15, 1951, to Benny and Lavera Divine. He grew up and lived in Alamosa until 1984 when he moved to Aztec, N.M. He lived a life devoted to his family, providing wisdom, guidance, and the strong foundation upon which his family grew and thrived.  

Edward Riley “Ed” Crowther, emeritus professor of history at Adams State University, succumbed on Jan. 12, 2025, to injuries sustained in a fall. He died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. He was 65.   

On Jan. 6, 2025, Eythel “Danae” Alspaugh (Bates) passed away at the age of 67. Danae was born in Levelland, Texas, on March 4, 1957, to Jimmy and Patricia Bates. She was married to Perry Alspaugh on June 28, 1984, in Del Norte, Colo.  

It is with great sorrow the we share the news that our beloved dad, grandfather, son and brother Joseph “Joey” Michael Salazar, 70 of Albuquerque, NM has passed away after a short and difficult battle with cancer. 

Lifetime Sanford resident Quinten Reese Crowther, 101, passed away peacefully in Alamosa, Colo., on Jan. 9, 2025. Quinten was born March 29, 1923, in Sanford, Colo., to Alma LeRoy and Sarah Ivy “Iva” Brothers Crowther, the fourth of eight children. He was married and sealed for time and all eternity to Thelma Ruth Rindlisbacher, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple on June 12, 1946. 

ALAMOSA – Linwood Dunn Warwick, a San Luis Valley Music Legend, made his journey to the heavenly kingdom, Thursday morning, Jan. 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife Melva and some of his children. 

With a heavy heart we announce the passing of our sweet Luci Atencio. Luci was called home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2024, She passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family. Luci was lovingly welcomed into the world on Aug. 13, 1938, in Trinidad, Colo.; the daughter of Willie Atencio Sr., and Cordelia (Romero) Atencio. 

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Eleanor A. Cruz 81, of Alamosa. Eleanor was welcomed into the world on Aug. 21, 1943, to the late Venseslao Gonzales and Estella Balerio Gonzales. 

CAPULIN – Heaven welcomed a giving soul Gilbert (Gibby) Reginaldo Vigil, 75, who was called home on Dec. 31, 2024. Gilbert joined our heavenly father at the time of his passing. 

Linda passed away peacefully on Jan. 6, 2025, at San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, Colo. Born in Denver, Colo., and adopted by her loving parents Delmar and Barbara Gumper she was brought to Alamosa and remained in Alamosa much of her life. 

Nick’s earthly journey ended on Jan. 3, 2025, at the age of 86. He passed away in blessed peace with Ona, his wife of 64 years, his children and grandchildren by his side. We will miss him so much and are grateful for the time we shared with him. 

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Ricardo Alberto Sierra, 76 of Del Norte, Colo. Ricardo gained his angel wings on Dec. 31, 2024, at the Rio Grande Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Ricardo was welcomed into the world on March 13, 1948, to the late Grant M. Sierra and Estella (Renner) Sierra in Del Norte, Colo. 

Helen Coreen Melonas, 89, entered in to rest on Dec. 24, 2024. She passed peacefully in the presence of her children. 

SANFORD – Gaylon E. Mortensen, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on March 3, 1923, in Sanford, Colo., to Holm Eugene and Effie Amelia Mortensen. He was the fourth of six children. 

Jose (Amos) Sanchez a life-long resident of the San Luis Valley passed away peacefully in the company of his daughters on Dec. 13, 2024, at 3:07 p.m. 

Mary Ann Mickelsen passed away Nov. 22, 2024, in Alamosa, Colo., at the age of 91. She was born on March 25, 1933, in Lamar, Colo., to Mable (Ramsdale) and Charles Grett. 

Rosana Priscila Gallegos-Monge born Jan. 4, 1936, passed away peacefully at her home in Monte Vista, Colo., on Dec. 20, surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 88 yrs old. She was born in a small town called San Miguel, N.M., to Leopoldo Marquez and Luisa (Duran) Marquez. 

SANFORD – Joyce Marie Valentine passed away peacefully with family near on Dec. 23, 2024, in Alamosa, Colo. Born on Jan. 8, 1943, in Provo, Utah, Joyce’s life was a testament to her unwavering kindness and dedication to her family, her students, and her community.
