ALAMOSA — Members of the Alamosa City Council resolved an issue in this week’s meeting related to whether the City of Alamosa should proceed with building a soup kitchen and emergency shelter near the industrial park on the south side of Alamosa. After listening to comments, a motion was made and seconded to stop the project and return the grant money to the funder. The vote was unanimous to stop further work on the facility construction.
After a very close race, Republican and Grand Junction attorney Jeff Hurd ultimately won the seat to represent CD-3, beating Democratic opponent Adam Frisch in his second bid for the seat by 12,000 votes or 3.3%.
Due to inclement weather many school districts across the San Luis Valley have canceled classes on Thursday, Nov. 7.
ALAMOSA — Incumbent Republican Senator Cleave Simpson is headed back to Denver for his second term after winning 55% of the vote in Senate District 6.
ALAMOSA – At the end of the evening, an unofficial count of the votes shows Democrat incumbent Rep. Matt Martinez victorious with 55% of the vote, garnering him a second term in the state House.
SAN LUIS VALLEY — In early election night returns Alamosa County Commissioner — District 1 race incumbent Lori Laske (R) led challenger Richard Needham (D) by 60.67% (2,846) to 39.33% (1,845 votes). Alamosa Commissioner Vern Heersink ran unopposed. Voter turnout for the county was 47.23 % with 4,875 votes cast.
