COVID-19 update for the week of Nov. 21

Respiratory viruses circulate year-round in the United States but are seen at higher levels in the fall and winter. In the past two years, respiratory viral disease activity has been highly impacted by COVID-19. According to the CDC, we suspect that many children are being exposed to some respiratory viruses now for the first time, having avoided these viruses during the height of the pandemic. Currently, there are elevated levels of influenza, also referred to as flu, and respiratory syncytial virus known as RSV, in addition to increasing levels of COVID-19 in Colorado and surrounding states.

Individuals living, working or spending time in close quarters with others are at higher risk of exposure to illness due to the length of time people are together and sharing the air. These settings include places like child care and schools, nursing homes, and correctional facilities. As community members, we can each do our part to keep the community healthy by taking reasonable precautions when sharing space with others, especially in high risk settings, and by staying home when sick.
