ALAMOSA — Spark the Change Colorado, a leading volunteerism nonprofit dedicated to service and community health, invites the public to its monthly speaker series, “Spark Speaker Series: Empowering Aging in Colorado.” The next event in the series takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center. 

CREEDE – Creede Repertory Theatre (CRT) will open its 60th anniversary season in May. The season will be its first under new Artistic Director Emily Van Fleet and will include two musicals, a theatrical adventure comedy, a riveting drama, and more. CRT will open all its main shows before the end of June.

MONTE VISTA — The eighth annual Rio Reels Film Festival will take place Friday, Nov. 15, from 6-9: p.m., at the Ski-Hi Banquet Hall in Monte Vista. 

Classical pianist Dmytro Vynogradov will be performing on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Colorado College Amphitheater.   

ALAMOSA – Voters in Alamosa had 13 propositions and amendments to consider plus two ballot measures for the city of Alamosa and a bond request for the Alamosa School District. 

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Public Library will host historian Dave Lively to present his talk, "Rocky's West Side Stories," and discuss the region's human history. The free presentation is on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. 

ALAMOSA — The SLV Community Band and soloist Brooke Miller, under the direction of Kerry Hart, gave a rousing performance at Adams State University on Nov. 2 in Richardson Hall. 

ALAMOSA — After being in business for five years, SLV Pet Care is celebrating with a ribbon cutting at their new training facility. The event is set for Nov. 7 from 12 to 2 p.m. at 1431 Main Street in Alamosa. Hosted by Julie Reisinger, SLV Pet Care owner, dog trainer and registered veterinary technician, the event will have giveaways, light refreshments and a raffle.   

ALAMOSA – The 2024 Skeleton Decorating Contest has come to a close and with that, the winners of this year's competition have been announced by Visit Alamosa.

ANTONITO — Viewers tuning into CBS News this week might have been surprised to see a familiar sight on their screen – the distinctive, unmistakable, white two-story adobe building bearing the bold, red letters S.P.M.D.T.U. that sits on Main Street in Antonito.  

ALAMOSA – Since its founding in 1921, Adams State University has prioritized students who are the first in their families to attend and graduate from college. Nearly 40% of the university’s current 1,728 undergraduates are considered first generation (neither parent completed college.) An endowment designed to further support such students was recently created by two Adams State vice presidents who themselves successfully navigated higher education as first-generation students. 

ALAMOSA – Society Hall, 400 Ross Ave., Alamosa, is presenting Roger Dawson and Friends for a CD release concert on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. 

ALAMOSA— The San Luis Valley Joint Interagency Oversight Group (SLV Joint IOG) recently honored partner agency staff members with the “Boots on the Ground” award in recognition of employees who exemplify the spirit of cross-systems collaboration.  

ALAMOSA – Adams State University was awarded nearly $3 million from the U.S. Department of Education’s Title V Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) grant program, according to Andrea Benton-Maestas, Project Director of the new Title V grant, ASCENDER: Elevating Hispanic and Low-Income Student Postsecondary Access and Success. 

The 2024 Fall Farm Festival on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Cole Park was another hit this year with costume contests, races and games, but the petting zoo seemed to draw the most attention.

ALAMOSA — The Adams State University Chamber Choir first full performance of the season begins at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in Richardson Hall Auditorium.
