Zacarias Salazar

ORTIZ — Zacarias Salazar died peacefully early Friday, September 25, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 21, 1929, to Eliseo and Agueda Salazar in Ortiz, CO. As a child, Zac began working as a cowboy in surrounding ranches in southern CO. He continued ranching until he married Tootsie in 1952. Soon after he began his work as an underground miner in CO. They moved to Albuquerque where he worked in the dairy industry and finally retired from the department of sanitation in 1990. He was known as the king of comedy to everyone who knew him, with one-liners and funny stories. By society’s standards, he didn’t live big, with flash or with the desire to possess material things, pride or vanity. Devoted to his faith, and his family, serving GOD simply and humbly. Zac served his community through the Knights of Columbus. He was a father figure, not only to his children and grandchildren, but also to nieces, nephews, and friends. He devoted his life to his love of 67 years, Theodora Salazar, and six children Lawrence, Helen, Selma, Samuel, Rose and Stephanie. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and sister Julia Valdez.
