Wrong-way crash kills Mosca teen

GOVE COUNTY, Kan.– A 15-year-old girl from Mosca was killed early Saturday when the car she was driving was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 70 in western Kansas, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Alexie Echo-Hawk, who was accompanied by her father Walter Echo-Hawk, Jr., was driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonata when the vehicle was struck by a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Christina Satana of Pueblo. Satana also died in the crash and three children in the Suburban and Alexie’s 46-year-old father reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Alexie is the daughter of Crista Newmyer-Olsen, a district judge in the 12th Judicial District in the San Luis Valley and formerly district attorney.

The highway patrol said Satana was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of I-70 in Gove County before the collision roughly 300 miles east of Denver.
