Wilma Jean Vandruff Mickelsen

Wilma Jean Vandruff Mickelsen, 90, died peacefully Monday, May 2, 2022 in Alamosa, Colorado.

Wilma was born October 11, 1931 in Alamosa, Colorado.  She was the fourth child born to Bertha E. Becher and Herschel Ray Vandruff.

Wilma grew up on the ranch west of the town of La Jara, enjoyed playing in the creek with her siblings and the neighbor kids, and tending the animals.  The family later moved into the town of La Jara.  Wilma graduated from La Jara High School.  She married her sweetheart “Dutch” Derril E Mickelsen on September 17, 1951 in the Manti, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and all eternity.

Wilma had a gift with numbers.  She worked for many years at the Chevrolet dealership in La Jara and received many awards for her bookkeeping skills from the General Motors Corporation.  Wilma worked at the La Jara Clinic and then for Qual Med Health Plans.  She was an asset to all of her employers and enjoyed working.  Wilma loved to read the scriptures and other books and tell the family about the book she was reading.  She traveled to many distant lands through reading her books.  In her later years, she enjoyed the activities and playing BINGO with her friends at the Evergreen Nursing Home.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Young Women’s and the Relief Society.

Wilma was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed going on trips or rides to the mountains with Dutch, and her family.  In the summertime when the children were younger, she would often take off the whole summer to spend time with her family and travel to Yellowstone, Utah, and Grand Junction.

She is survived by her children Dessa (Mark) Pottberg of Sanford, CO, Fae (Ben) Feutz of Dover, OH, Genia (Keith) Rasmussen of Grand Junction, CO and Eric (Dee Ann) Mickelsen of Mesa, AZ; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and her sister Nedra (Pat) Lara of Pueblo, Co; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband “Dutch” Mickelsen, her parents, her brother Roy and sisters Patsy and Doris Ann, and her great-granddaughter Holland.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 10:00-10:45 a.m. in the Relief Society Room at the Sanford Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 also at the church.  Interment will take place in the Sanford Cemetery.
