CREEDE– A team consisting of all San Luis Valley players topped the B League field in the annual “Golden Pick” pond hockey tournament played here last weekend on the ponds just north of town.

The Wapiti Warriors avenged their only loss of the tournament by topping the Check Republic in the final game of the B League which featured six teams. They had lost to Republic in the semi-finals but came back with a win over Raider Rash to reach the finals.

Kip’s Minnesota team topped the A League with a win over Liars and A Holes. Twelve teams competed in the A League of more experienced hockey players.

Kip Nagy, of Kip’s Grill, and Brian Brittain, owner of Tommyknocker Tavern both in Creede, are the originators of the event and serve as official referees for the tournament attended Saturday and Sunday by a large crowd.
