Wanda Maday (Mogford) Kalana, 85

Hillsboro, Ore. —Wanda Maday (Mogford) Kalana, 85, Craig, died on March 24, 2017.

Wanda was born on May 5, 1931, to Fredrick (Fritz) William Mogford and Ruby Jewell McHan Mogford.

She married James Wilburn Kalana in Plainview, Texas.

Wanda earned a Masters in Psychology from Adams State in 1981. She was Clerk of the County Court in Alamosa, Colorado where she resided for 40 years.

She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Relief Society for 67 years.

Surviving children are: Leah (Kalana) Westbrook (Mart Westbrook) of Banning, California; Kadi (Kalana) Rogers (Steve Rogers) of Wilcox, Arizona; Pamela (Kalana) Sorensen (Robert Sorensen) of Hillsboro, Oregon; Karen (Kalana) Cattoor (Marvin Cattoor) of Craig, CO; Jim Kalana Jr. (Valerie Trujillo Kalana) of Grand Junction, CO; and Teresa (Kalana) Hendrickson (Douglas Hendrickson) of Orem, Utah.

Wanda leaves 37 grandchildren and 70 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by sister Ruby Jewell Graber of Albany, Oregon; brother George Mogford (Leilani Kalana Mogford) of Abeline, Texas; and sister-in-law Pualani Hedrick (Steven and Suzanna Hedrick) of Roundrock, Texas.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Fritz and Ruby Mogford, husband James Wilburn Kalana, sisters Dorthy Witt, Frizti Levine, and Darlene March, and brother-in-law Frank Kalana.

A funeral service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1546 North 1100 West Orem, Utah on April 1st, 2017 at 12:00 with burial in the Orem Cemetery.

Wanda was the wife of James Wilburn Kalana. She was an artist, a chef, a counselor, a gardener, a nurse, a hairstylist, a Trekie, an educator, a seamstress, an animal lover, a spiritual Giant, a wonderful example to her children, foster children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a golden voice that she used in her church Choir and occasionally at social occasions. Wanda and husband James lived in Alamosa from 1962 until 2001. They moved to Orem to be near to their youngest daughter Teresa Hendrickson. In 2009 they moved to live with their daughter Karen in Craig, CO after James became ill. James passed away in 2010 and Wanda stayed in Craig, CO until February of 2016. Wanda then went to visit her daughter Pam in Hillsboro, OR and stayed until her death in March 2017. Wanda passed away due to complications from Atrial fibrillation that could not be resolved. She died with all her children lovingly around her bedside. She still is and always will be beautiful to any who knew and loved her.
