Valley projects awarded severance tax dollars

VALLEY – The Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) this week announced the award of $17,301,698 to 57 local governments as part of the Tier I and II Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance Funds (EIAF) program. Three projects in the San Luis Valley were awarded funding.

The EIAF program assists political subdivisions that are socially and/or economically impacted by the development, processing, or energy conversion of minerals and mineral fuels. Funds come from the state severance tax on energy and mineral production and from a portion of the state's share of royalties paid to the federal government for mining and drilling of minerals and mineral fuels on federally-owned land.
The next EIAF grant application deadline will be August 1.

Receiving awards in the San Luis Valley were:

  • Baca Grande WSD Biosolids Drying Beds, $63,140 requested and awarded
  • Northern Saguache County FPD New Moffat Fire Station, $115,700 requested and awarded
  • Conejos Library District Capulin Library, $96,228 requested and awarded

The request for $64,995 to install an elevator in the Saguache County Courthouse was not funded.
