Valley Gardening: Free concert tickets and thanks for firefighters

All is good in the neighborhood—because I have cleaned my meeting room in preparation for the Inspirational Cards by Peyton Sanchez open house! I’m hoping you are an early riser/reader and have time to come down between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to check out what this young man has been up to on his summer vacation. It’s just been an amazing journey with Peyton for anyone who knows him. We are inspired. Every day!

Along with free coffee, we will also be hosting an ice cream social for donations and all donations will be going to the Alamosa Fire Department and the Colorado State Fire Department stationed in Alamosa.  How cool is that? And did I mention my meeting room is clean? Thank you Peyton for getting me to do that! If I can only keep it that way would be a small miracle, but that is what I am hoping for.

Speaking of those wonderful fire fighters….Society Hall is offering up to 50 free tickets to the awesome concert tonight to fighters and first responders! It’s certainly only a small token of our gratitude for all that you did for the Valley community and beyond these past few weeks. If you know someone who helped in any way on the fire line, please have them get in touch with me at 580-7838 if they want to come to a fabulous, wonderful concert.

I am pretty grateful for having my store and being able to offer Hemp CBD products to so many people.  I have been amazed at the ailments that are being helped by this simple, yet complicated plant. And I am asking if any readers out there for input on what they have tried for neuropathy and diabetes. Are you using Hemp CBD alone or are you trying Cannabis because CBD/THC are needed for neuropathy pain? Any information you can share will be passed on to others with the same kind of problems.

Meanwhile…back at Mom’s Garden…we got the beginning of the rototilling done in the garden this week. Those guys at U.S. Tractor/John Deere came through this week and got the first round done. I am so thrilled that they did the first breakthrough because the ground was really, really, really hard. I will be watering a little bit this weekend and then will have them till again. I was able to add some FoxFarm Soil Conditioner on the first little part and it feels so-o-o good! I was also able to start moving some of the rocks from the back of the garden to the front area. It’s such a process. A slow process.

Anyone who tells you can put in perennials and never do any work again is telling you a lie. All perennials need some work in order to keep growing, and blooming. For instance, if you cut back the Rocky Mountain Penstemon at the right time, they will bloom again. Not as many blooms, but some bloom. If you don’t cut them back the flower stems will turn brown and then you will have hundreds and hundreds of babies—not always desirable.

As a gardener, I got to thinking this week about how much I really do know. Which flowers to cut back and where to put the perennials. In Mom’s Garden, I have planted a lot of annuals this year, but I am always thinking about where to plant a perennial. I am always thinking about ‘next year’. I am ordering plants right now, because I am so excited about what I am doing for my community. This area is going to be beautiful, or should I say more beautifully awesome? People continue to donate for the soil conditioner and that is so appreciated.

And before I forget, I have to tell you about all the worms I found this week while digging up some of the wild blue grass I planted in that garden. I am so simple—you all know that—to get so excited about worms. But it means that the soil is coming alive! If you want to be a part of this garden and have any extra worms I would LOVE to have them. Please bring them by the Green Spot any time!
