Two vehicle crash takes life

ALAMOSA — Melissa Chacon, 46, from Monte Vista lost her life in a two vehicle accident when her vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic on Friday night. A second driver, Faith Pacheco, 23, from Monte Vista, was transported to the SLV Health Hospital for serious injuries. She was later flown out on flight for life.

On Friday, November 12th, 2021 nearing 5 o’clock the Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 160 near milepost 227 in Alamosa County.

Chacon was traveling westbound on Highway 160. Pacheco was traveling eastbound on Highway 160.  Chacon’s Hyundai Elantra drifted off the north edge of the road and then completely into the eastbound lane.  The Elantra’s front left impacted the Jeep Cherokee driven by Pacheco’s front left in the eastbound lane.  After impact, the Elantra rotated counter-clockwise 360 degrees coming to final rest facing west blocking the westbound lane.  After impact, the Jeep Cherokee rotated counter-clockwise 180 degrees traveling off the south edge of the roadway and coming to final rest facing west along the dirt roadside. 

Chacon had died at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
