Turn in Weekends on the Rio Passport to win prizes

ALAMOSA — Remember spending summer Sundays at Weekends on the Rio events, enjoying a story under the cottonwoods at the Rio Grande Farm Park, working up a sweat at Zumba, or floating down the river on a paddleboard?

Well, there will be a celebration for all those kiddos who got outside and filled their summer with outdoor fun and their Weekends on the Rio passports with stamps.

The Weekends on the Rio Passport Program is a kids’ guide to experiencing outdoor adventure in the San Luis Valley. Kids who participated got stamps from the Weekends on the Rio program instructors or at the Sundays at Six booth to record their involvement. They also had the opportunity to log a list of family excursions with parent signatures.

It is now time to turn in passports to be eligible for exciting prizes, including a $500 gift certificate at Kristi Mountain Sports and free passes for many outdoor activities. To be eligible for the grand prize participants need to have logged 12 stamps in their passport. However, everyone who participated in at least five different activities will win something.

Passports can be turned in at the Alamosa Public Library, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley, or the San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition Office until Tuesday, October 31.

The prize drawing will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley gym at 4 p.m.

The Weekends on the Rio event series was made possible by a generous grant from Colorado Health. Many Alamosa organizations collaborated to facilitate this program, including the City of Alamosa, the Rio Grande Farm Park, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley, the Adams State University Adventure Program (ASAP), Walk2Connect, Fit Discover, Kristi Mountain Sports, Cairn Yoga, and ALMA.
