Turkey hunting seminar scheduled in Pagosa Springs

PAGOSA SPRINGS – Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering two events for turkey hunters in April in the Pagosa Springs area – a mentored turkey hunt for youth and women hunters, and a seminar on the basics of turkey hunting.

The mentored hunt for women and youth, ages 12-17, will be held April 21 and 22. Those interested in participating in the hunt must fill out one of the online application at:

The number of available hunting spots is limited and the deadline to apply is April 6. No hunting experience is necessary; but selected hunters must possess a valid hunter safety card and a valid turkey hunting license by April 20. Applicants will be notified by April 9 if they have been selected to participate in the hunt. Youth selected must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the hunt.

CPW wildlife officers and experienced volunteers will lead hunters. The hunts will be conducted on private property in the Pagosa Springs area.

The turkey hunting seminar will be held from 3-6 p.m., April 20 at the Archuleta County-CSU Extension Service office in Pagosa Springs. It is free and open to all hunters, no matter their experience level.  The seminar will cover turkey biology, hunting strategies, hunting equipment, calling, laws, regulations and safety. Attendance at the seminar is mandatory for those selected for the mentored hunt.
