Trudy Ann McCollum

Longtime Alamosa resident Trudy Ann McCollum, 79, died May 3, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.

Trudy was born September 17, 1942, to Earl and Carolyn (Ichorn) McCollum in Mendota, Illinois.

The family moved to Colorado in 1949 and finally settled in Monte Vista, where Trudy graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1960.  She then went on to have a long career with the Colorado State Highway Department located in Alamosa. She had many enjoyable roles in her 30-year tenure with the state, finally calling it a career in 1997 and announcing her retirement.

Trudy’s pure joy was her grandchildren.  She kept busy following them in all of their activities and enjoyed having the perfect meal ready after the game.  She enjoyed many trips to Texas to visit her son and family which always lead to a big shrimp boil.  When Scott and his family would come to Colorado, she would prepare his favorite German potato salad. Trudy also enjoyed traveling and was able to take a trip of a lifetime to Europe.  Starting in Germany, and then Ireland where she reminisced about her family heritage at beautiful Galway Bay.  She then continued to Italy, and finally made her last stop in England.

Trudy had a competitive spirit and loved playing different card games with her family and friends. She was a very active participant in her local Bridge Club that included many close friends.  She could play a hand of cards. She was also an avid sports fan, always following the Broncos, Nuggets, and Rockies even college teams. If you ever needed to know the time or score of a game Trudy was your gal!

Trudy is survived by her sister Jowanda (John) Villyard of The Villages, FL; her son, Scott (Laura) Stegman of Dickinson, TX; her daughter, Kara (Jerry) Nye of Alamosa, CO; her grandchildren, Sheila Stegman of Houston, TX; Raleigh, Ellie, Helena, and Larry Stegman of Dickinson, TX, Kyle Nye, Alamosa, CO. Landon (Kimmye) Nye, Goldsboro, NC, and Taylor Nye, Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC.  Trudy also would have been a great grandmother to Kayden and Kinsley Nye, twins of Landon and Kimmye to be born this month.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
