Travis Anderson honored

Patrick Mascarenas, left, and Charlie Orona, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6101 commander in San Luis, raise the flag at the memorial for Travis Anderson at the corner of Lane 12 North and Highway 17 on Nov. 11. Anderson was born in La Jara in 1977 and was killed by a suicide bomber on May 13, 2005 while deployed in Iraq. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Hooper Town Mayer Ray Newmyer, Alamosa County Commissioners, Alamosa County Veterans Officer Frank Muniz, Saguache County Commissioner Tim Lovato, Colorado House District 62 Representative Donald Valdez and Colorado Senate District 35 Senator Larry Crowder spoke at the ceremony.
