I have been concerned for some time about the deepening division in our country. As a child, I though that the phrase “a house divided against itself cannot stand” came from Webster. But it comes from the Bible. Jesus said in Matthew 12:25: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself cannot stand.” I believe words are very important. So I would like to see that we Americans would drop or stop using the words “right” and “left” to designate Republicans from Democrats. We should all strive to be right! So I have written a simple poem to show my thoughts.

The Time

A leaf drops

A bird flies by

The horizon darkens

With clouds piled high

A hush awakens

The imminent storm

Words of anger

Fill the air with

Vile accusations

Heard everywhere,

And no forgiveness

Seen anywhere!

Evil has performed,

Daring God to prove

His celestial wisdom

To man anew.

The cry is heard

The time has come

To right the right

By men of truth.

Are we not shaken

Our birth to prove?
