‘The Abandoned’ to show in La Veta

LA VETA — “The Abandoned,” a photography show by artists Karen Voepel, Lex Nichols and Vincent Gearhart will be on display from May 18 through June 17 at the Gallery of the Spanish Peaks Arts Council, also known as the Gallery in the Park or the SPACe Gallery. The Gallery is located at 132 W. Ryus in La Veta.  There will be an artist’s reception Saturday, May 27 from 5-7 p.m.

All three photographers, Karen Voepel, Lex Nichols and Vincent Gearhart, bring their own individual perspectives to this exhibit.

The photography of Karen Voepel embraces abandoned cars, abandoned people and the abandoned wild mustangs in South Dakota that are now under the auspices of the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros.  Most of Karen’s photos are exhibited on metal with some of them displayed in vintage windows.

Vincent Gearhart and Lex Nichols have traveled throughout the southeastern part of Colorado capturing the abandoned essence of the plains in photographs. Vincent and Lex scout out abandoned buildings, neglected homesteads, junk, machinery, etc., and exhibit their digitally enhanced photography primarily on canvas.

Their photography can be viewed on their Instagram page at @coloradoabandoned  and on Facebook at Abandoned Colorado.  All three photographers reside in southeast Colorado.
