Street closure begins June 25

ALAMOSA — First Street will be closed beginning June 25 through August 26 between Edgemont Boulevard and Monterey Avenue.

The City of Alamosa is continuing the First Street Utility Replacement and Roadway Reconstruction Project this summer starting near the ambulance garage where the first phase ended. In addition to the construction of new pavement, curb, gutter, and sidewalks the project will replace aging city utilities including water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems through Monterey Avenue.

The roadway foundation construction will extend to a depth of over three feet. The city’s contractor for this project, Gardner Excavating, will be locating and exposing with care e underground utility systems allowing for the placement of the required roadway foundation materials. The complexity of this work requires the closure of First Street for the duration of the project.

The recently completed Xcel Energy project has replaced and relocated all Xcel underground utilities in this segment of First Street. The city thanks Xcel Energy for completing this work prior to the city beginning this year’s roadway project.

The City of Alamosa thanks residents in advance for avoiding travel on First Street during this project. Contact (719) 589-6631.
